It's a rare...but great day...with us "4 eyed" athletes (past or present) get to hear people tout about how hip it is to wear glasses. Yesterday, while I was working out on the elliptical at the Y and watching ESPN, I saw a piece on the players of the NBA who are now bringing nerd glasses back into fashion! At the end of my junior year in high school, a picture of me wearing my Kurt Rambis' glasses to play basketball ended up in my high school yearbook...I wasn't real keen on that. (You can find it on this website in the section "Author Pictures")
I couldn't see to play....so I had to do something about it. Those glasses were pretty much the only option an athlete had if you didn't want to play blind or couldn't wear contact lenses.
As my book is starting to sell well and I can see to my fiftieth birthday coming around the corner, I'm getting real reflective. With this news article on glasses, I'm especially happy to find out that I was "hip" before my time!
Now...could someone please convince my kids?!
(I should have titled this blog: "You can logic yourself into anything"!)
